1. Source: The Ministry of Labor and Social Security of China 2005 statistics (updates are based upon news reports prior to July 2006). Minimum wages listed here are monthly-based.

2. Provinces and cities usually have multiple levels of minimum wage standards based upon different geographic locations and industries.

3. The exchange rate used here is based upon $1 = ¥ 8 as on July 12, 2006 .

4. For cities that have different minimum wage standards from the provinces they are located in, they are marked with *.

5. Gansu 's minimum wage standard is the lowest in China . There is an expected raise by the end of 2006.

6. It is expected to raise to ¥800/700/600/500 in December 2006.

7. It applies to Guangzhou .

8. It applies to Fuoshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai and Huizhou.

9. The new minimum wage standard in Shenzhen was approved by the end of May 2006 : ¥810 within the Special Economic Zone, ¥700 outside the Special Economic Zone (including Bao'an and Longgang).

10. It applies to Daqing Industrial District.

11. It applies to Harbin .
